Rawalpindi. Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced a major movement against the country’s government and military leadership for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Afridi has now come out on the streets with the message of Imran Khan, who is lodged in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. According to sources, Afridi has declared in clear words that Imran Khan’s slogan is freedom or death and now the decisive battle will be fought on this path. The Chief Minister alleged that he is being threatened to open fire on the protesters, but he is not afraid. He made it clear that only Imran Khan’s politics and policies will be effective in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Afridi’s statement comes at a time when Pakistan is facing international pressure over the solitary confinement conditions in Imran Khan’s jail. Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023, and his party has been continuously alleging that he has been kept in solitary confinement to cause mental torture. International human rights organizations have expressed concern over this. Meanwhile, Afridi has also claimed that Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are being continuously tortured in jail. He told that the Adiala jail administration refused to allow him to meet Imran Khan for the tenth consecutive time. Imran Khan’s close aides and party leaders have accused the army chief of illegal interference and political vendetta. The situation remains tense outside Adiala jail, where Imran Khan’s sisters, party workers and Chief Minister Sohail Afridi himself have been protesting for several days. The rumors spreading about Imran Khan’s health have also heated up the atmosphere.
