Bezos’s ex-wife McKenzie donated billions, reduced stake in Amazon by 43 percent

Washington. MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and renowned philanthropist, has set a new global record for donations in the year 2025. Scott, known for her generosity, has donated a total of $7.1 billion (about $7,166,000,000) this year, the largest amount she has ever given in any one year. According to the information shared on their official website Yield Giving, this huge amount of money has been distributed to 186 different institutions around the world. These institutions mainly include universities, organizations working in the field of environmental protection and units fighting for social equality.
The most striking feature of this year’s donation has been the unwavering support given to educational institutions. MacKenzie Scott donated $88 million to Howard University, the largest contribution by any individual donor in the university’s 158-year history. Additionally, he has provided $42 million to 10,000 Degrees, an organization that supports education and degree attainment. Due to this long list of philanthropy, she now stands among the world’s biggest donors along with stalwarts like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.
On the financial front, Scott has strategically reduced his stake in Amazon to continue his philanthropic campaign. According to reports, he recently sold shares worth about $12.6 billion. He currently holds 81.10 million shares of Amazon outstanding, which is significantly less than last year. In 2019, she had pledged to donate a large portion of the wealth she received after separating from Jeff Bezos. Despite being one of the richest women in the world with a net worth of approximately $29.90 billion, she has so far sold 42 percent of her wealth for social welfare.
