After the announcement of Trump New Tariffs, the ongoing dispute over Greenland seems to be deepening further. Tension has come to the fore between US President Donald Trump and many European countries of NATO. Trump has announced to impose 10 percent tariff on eight countries of Europe from February. After this decision, Britain and France have expressed strong objection, while the European Union has called an emergency meeting in view of the seriousness of the situation.
Donald Trump said on Saturday that from February 2026, a 10 percent tariff will be imposed on goods imported from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Finland and the Netherlands. According to Trump, all these countries are opposing American control over Greenland, hence this step has been taken. He made it clear through social media posts that this decision is completely strategic.
The US President further warned that if no agreement is reached regarding Greenland, the tariff rate will be increased to 25 percent from June 1, 2026. It is clear from Trump’s statement that he is using tariffs as a weapon to put pressure on Denmark and other European countries.
