Javed Akhtar said in an interview to India Today, “The makers came to me for ‘Border 2’, but I refused. This is because they have an old song, which is already a hit and they want to re-release it by making slight changes in it. Is this a thing? Make new songs or accept that you cannot work at that level.”

Javed Akhtar further said, “What has happened, let it be. What is the need to recreate it? When we were writing songs for ‘Border 1’ (1997), we also had a film before us, Haqeeqat (1964) and its songs were not mediocre. Be it ‘Kar Chale Hum Fida’ or ‘Main Ye Sochkar Uske Dar Se Utha Tha’. They were great songs. But we did not use them. We wrote new songs, We made completely different songs and people liked them, so why are you relying on the past? It means that we cannot live with the past.
