The number of Indian tourists reaching Nepal increased this year

Kathmandu. There was a tremendous boom in Nepal’s tourism industry at the beginning of the new year 2026. According to the data released by Nepal Tourism Board, a huge increase of 15.7 percent has been recorded in the number of international tourists arriving in Nepal in January. The biggest credit for this record breaking success goes to India, because more than one out of every four tourists coming to Nepal are Indians.
According to media reports, a total of 92,573 international tourists arrived in Nepal by air in January 2026, while the number was 79,991 in January 2025. India has maintained its dominance in this crowd of tourists. Statistics show that the attraction of Indians towards Nepal is increasing rapidly. While 20,485 Indians reached Nepal by air in January last year, this year the number has increased by 30 percent to 26,624. Talking about South Asian countries, about 40 percent of the total tourists come from this region.
According to Nepal Tourism Board, there are three main reasons behind this increasing number of tourists – Due to better connectivity, the number of air flights to Nepal from India and other countries has increased. Nepal has effectively promoted its tourist destinations internationally. Nepal’s image as a safe and beautiful tourism destination has been strengthened globally.

Number of tourists in the country
India 26,624
China 9,101
America 8,406
Bangladesh 5,814
Australia 4,957
