Demand to ban the release of Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Ghooshkhor Pandit’, petition filed in Delhi High Court; this is the reason

Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film ‘Ghushkhor Pandit’ is embroiled in controversies even before its release. This film, which was released on Netflix, is now stuck in legal trouble. A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court regarding the title of the film. It has been alleged that the title of the film is derogatory towards the Brahmin community. This has been said in the petition. It has been said in the petition filed in the court that the title and promotional material of the film deliberately associates the word ‘Pandit’ with corruption and bribery. Petitioner lawyer Vineet Jindal, who describes himself as a public-spirited citizen, has taken serious objection to the content of the film being communally objectionable and defamatory. Also expressed is the fear of widespread damage to the dignity and prestige of the Brahmin community. The petitioner has made the Central Government the main party in the case. It argues that it is the duty of the government to control digital platforms and stop streaming of content that harms social harmony.

Public order may deteriorate due to the release of the film

The petitioner has demanded immediate intervention of the court in this matter. Also said that they are confident that the release of the film will amount to mass defamation and hate speech, which may disturb communal harmony and public order. Lawyer Vineet Jindal has demanded a ban on the release of the Netflix film. They say that the use of the word Pandit in its title deliberately links a well-known religious and social designation (surname) with corruption and bribery. This content violates Articles 14, 21 and 25 of the Constitution of India by targeting a specific religious and social group.

Demand to ban the release of the film

The petition demands a ban on the release. The petitioner has also said that creative liberty cannot be used as a shield to show stereotypes, communal condemnation or false content against any religious group. The petition urges the Central Government to take appropriate action against Netflix under applicable laws governing digital and OTT platforms.
