Employee lost his job because of his love for a dog? Controversy over pizza chain in Russia, the company gave this clarification

The case of a delivery worker being fired from his job for covering a stray dog with a blanket in Chelyabinsk city of Russia has now become a topic of national debate. After this incident, animal lovers have intensified their demand for boycott of the famous pizza chain Dodo Pizza.

what is the whole matter

According to reports, a stray dog named Dodobonya was living outside an outlet of Dodo Pizza in Chelyabinsk for the last one and a half years. The shop staff and local people looked after him and covered him with blankets during the minus 20 degree temperatures in winter. Gradually this dog became the unofficial mascot of the outlet among the employees and customers. The situation changed when a new manager, Yulia, was appointed to the outlet. It is alleged that he refused to allow employees to feed or care for the dog and warned that anyone who sheltered the dog would be fired.

Delivery man takes leave for giving blanket

Delivery employee Mikhail Savitsky said that he had covered the dog lying in the snow with a blanket to protect it from the cold and then went to deliver his order. According to him, while returning he was told that he was fired from his job and was also thrown out of the meeting. Mikhail claims that the reason for his dismissal was for helping the dog. They also showed screenshots of messages from the manager, which allegedly warned dog helpers about being fired.

The company denied the allegations

After the controversy escalated and support was received on social media, Dodo Pizza issued an official statement saying that the employee was not removed for helping the dog, but for reasons related to the demonstration. According to the company, the contract with the courier was terminated due to regular delays, absenteeism and violations related to business conduct. Animal welfare is not a reason to remove anyone.

Demand for boycott on social media

However, animal lovers and locals say Dodobonya was associated with the outlet for a long time and punishing the sensitivity of the staff is inhumane. After this incident went viral, the appeal of protest and boycott against the company is spreading rapidly on social media.
