Tehran. The suspense has deepened regarding the final farewell of Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei. According to the previously decided program, his last rites were to be held on Thursday but it has been postponed in view of security reasons and the fear of Israeli attack. The administration will soon announce new dates for the funeral. Let us tell you that Ali Khamenei died in the horrific bombing carried out by America on his office. Many other top leaders of Iran were also killed in this attack.
According to media reports, America and Israel first confirmed it, after which Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also officially announced his death and martyrdom. The biggest reason behind postponing Khamenei’s funeral is the safety of millions of people. In 1989, about 1 crore people gathered at Khomeini’s funeral. It is feared that lakhs of people will take to the streets to mark Khamenei’s farewell. Iran fears that Israel may attack during this huge condolence meeting, which may cause massive casualties. Due to this war risk, the Islamic Development Co-ordination Council has decided to take the program forward.
Khamenei will be laid to rest in Mashhad, one of Iran’s holiest cities. The word Mashhad itself means place of martyr. He will be buried near the holy shrine of Imam Reza. The Iranian media and public are considering his death as martyrdom, so he will be buried as a martyr with full state and religious honors. According to the Islamic Propagation Council, the last rites will be held at the Khomeini Mosque in Tehran. These rituals will continue for a total of 3 days after which the body will be taken to Mashhad. At present, security arrangements have been tightened in Tehran and the eyes of the whole world are fixed on the announcement of new dates.
