Washington. On the 15th day of the ongoing war between America and Iran, the conflict has reached a very sensitive point. US President Donald Trump has claimed that on his orders the US Central Command has carried out the most powerful bombing ever on Iran’s strategically important Kharg Island. This attack has been carried out not only from a military point of view, but also with the intention of hurting Iran’s economy. Kharg Island is a small coral island located in the Persian Gulf, which is considered the nerve system of Iran’s oil exports. About 80 to 90 percent of Iran’s total crude oil exports to the world go through the terminals on this island. This is why destroying this island means breaking the economic backbone of Iran. Trump clarified that the US Air Force has completely destroyed all military bases on the island, causing huge strategic losses to Tehran.
Surprisingly, the oil infrastructure has not been deliberately targeted in this horrific attack. According to President Trump, America has shown restraint and kept the oil terminals safe, so that there is no sudden chaos in the global oil market. However, he warned in a stern tone that if Iran continued to try to block the passage of ships in the Strait of Hormuz, this complacency would be immediately ended and the oil bases would also be blown up.
This move of America is going to increase the uneasiness not only of Iran but also of China. China is the largest buyer of Iranian oil and its energy security is largely dependent on supplies from Kharg Island. American pressure on the island simply means that Beijing’s oil supply may now depend on Washington’s will. Trump has also discussed this matter with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which makes it clear that this war is no longer just between two countries, but has become the center of global politics. On the other hand, Iran has given a sharp reaction after this attack. According to Iranian media, Tehran has threatened that if attacks on its energy targets continue, it will target all international oil installations in which the US has stakes. Meanwhile, while talking to reporters, Trump has indicated that oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz will soon be provided with US Navy protection. For now, this attack on Kharg Island will decide the future direction of this war. If tensions are not reduced, the world may face a major energy crisis.
