Holmes. There was chaos in the Syrian city of Homs when an explosion occurred in a mosque. 8 people died in this attack, while more than 20 people were injured. According to media reports, this blast was targeted at the mosque located in Wadi al-Dahab area of Homs province. The blast occurred at the time of Friday prayers, causing panic among the people present in the mosque. In the video footage that surfaced, people were seen running out of the mosque, while many injured were taken to the hospital.
According to reports, the blast occurred in a corner of the main namaz hall of the mosque, leaving a crater in the wall and badly damaging the surrounding area. It is feared that the attack could be a suicide attack or explosives had already been planted in the mosque. After the incident, security forces cordoned off the entire area and investigation has been started.
Let us tell you that the city of Homs has a mixed population of Alawites, Christians and Sunni Muslims and this attack took place in an Alawite (Nusairi) mosque, due to which there is a possibility of increasing communal tension in the country. At present, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, but in recent times there has been an increase in the activities of Islamic State in Syria. The army recently arrested three alleged ISIS terrorists during an operation near Aleppo. It is noteworthy that last week the US carried out air strikes on ISIS targets in Syria, which were said to be in response to the killing of two American soldiers and a translator.
