Irrfan Khan, one of the most experienced actors of cinema, is no more in this world. But, he is still alive in the memories of the fans. As soon as Irrfan is mentioned, his face with talking eyes starts moving in front of us. His eyes used to act as his tongue and everyone was fascinated by his innocence. Irrfan Khan, born on 7 January 1967, said goodbye to the world in April 2020. Today, on Irrfan’s birth anniversary, let us know about his famous films and characters…

Film- Maqbool (2003)

The film’s story is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, in which Maqbool (Irrfan Khan) is the right-hand man of Jahangir Khan (Pankaj Kapur), a don. Nimmi (Tabu) is Jahangir Khan’s mistress, but she and Maqbool secretly fall in love. Nimmi encourages Maqbool’s ambitions and convinces him to kill Jahangir Khan as a don. After this role, Irrfan Khan increased his fees and started working only with selected directors.

Film- Haasil (2003)

With the 2003 film Haasil directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, Irrfan Khan achieved the success that every actor wants to achieve. The story of the film was based on student politics of Allahabad University in the city of UP. In the film, Irrfan played the role of Ranvijay Singh very well, due to which he also received the Filmfare Award for Best Villain.

One of Tigmanshu’s best films, this film received international appreciation. Irrfan played the role of Inderjit Singh, the plundered Sultan of a ruined princely state, in this film. He is struggling to regain his lost inheritance, which has been ruined by the ancestors of Aditya Pratap (Jimmy Shergill). This film gives a full dose of hatred, love, betrayal, lust etc.

The pairing of Timganshu Dhulia and Irrfan once again created a stir and the film also won the National Awards for Acting and Best Feature Film. With this film, Irrfan was noticed by Hollywood and British cinema and he started getting offers for big Hollywood projects.

Life of Pi (2012)

Irfan has earned more respect in Hollywood than the recognition he has made in Hindi cinema. In this film directed by Taiwanese director Ang Lee, Irrfan is seen narrating his biography to a writer. Irfan begins his story from childhood, and describes in detail an incident in his adolescence in which he spent a long time on a boat with a lion. Starving yourself and living on a boat with a hungry lion almost feels like suicide.

The Lunchbox was a romantic film directed by Ritesh Batra. The story of the film is based in Mumbai and it stars Nimrat Kaur along with Irrfan, who is playing the role of Ila. Actually, Ila prepares food for her husband and sends it to him and due to the mistake of the person carrying the box, it reaches Irfan’s character Saajan. This unique love story made Irrfan a box office superstar. This was the highest grossing Hindi film of Irrfan’s career till that year.

In this film, Irrfan Khan played the character named Roohdaar. Haider is the story of a boy who discovers that his mother’s new husband may be the reason for his father’s death. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, this film has a rating of 8 on IMDb.

Movie – Piku (2015)

The story of the film is about Piku Banerjee (Deepika) and her old father Bhaskar (Amitabh). Bhaskar suffers from constipation and the entire film is based on the bickering between father and daughter over this issue. Rana Chaudhary (Irrfan) runs a taxi company and reluctantly takes the responsibility of taking Bhaskar to Kolkata. Rana’s character acts as a temper in the father-daughter story. This film of Shoojit Sircar is considered to be the turning point of Deepika’s career and Irrfan Khan had a big role in enhancing her character.

This remake of the 2015 Malayalam film Salt Mango Tree established Irrfan Khan as a big star among the general Hindi cinema audience and this film also proved this. Irrfan Khan also worked on the small screen. In the 90s, he played a double role in the popular Doordarshan serial ‘Chandrakanta’. He was seen in the role of Badrinath and his twin brother Somnath.
