Sydney. Israeli President Isaac Herzog arrived in Sydney on Monday. His four-day visit to Australia is to show support for the Jewish community following the terrorist attack on Bondi Beach in December last year. However, there is also a dispute regarding Palestinians and Israel. In a statement, Herzog said he would visit Jewish communities across Australia to express solidarity and strength to the community following the attack, according to media reports.
According to reports, Herzog, who came at the invitation of Australia’s Governor-General and PM, will attend events with Jewish community leaders during his visit. Apart from this, he may also meet senior politicians. On the other hand, groups and common people in Australia are opposing this visit in protest against Israel’s policies and actions towards Palestinians. Australian Jews and people have written an open letter saying Herzog is not welcome here.
Protests are planned in cities where Herzog is scheduled to visit. These also include Canberra and Melbourne. There are preparations to hold a rally and march in the city center in Sydney on Monday evening. During this period, strict security arrangements have been made. More than 3,000 police will be deployed in the state of New South Wales during Herzog’s visit, of which about 500 will be deployed solely to protect the proposed demonstration. Let us tell you that on December 14 last year, there was firing in celebration of the Jewish festival on Sydney’s Bondi Beach. 16 people were killed in this attack.
