Life imprisonment to the accused of murder of former Japan PM Abe, who was shot during election campaign.

Tokyo. The Japanese court has sentenced the murderer of former PM Shinzo Abe to life imprisonment. According to media reports, the court gave this decision on Wednesday. Earlier, 45-year-old accused Tetsuya Yamagami had confessed to killing Abe in July 2022. Let us tell you that Shinzo Abe was then giving a speech during the election campaign in Nara city of western Japan. Then shots were fired at him. This incident shook not only Japan but the entire world. Yamagami had confessed to murder in the trial that began in October. Nara District Court found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The defense had appealed to limit the sentence to 20 years, which was rejected by the court.
The case has also exposed old relationships between Japan’s ruling party and a controversial South Korean church. Yamagami told the court that he had targeted Abe because of a video message. The accused said that his aim was to harm the church and expose its political relations with him. She said Abe was the biggest symbol of that relationship.
After this incident many questions were raised on the close relationship between the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and the Church. After this the party distanced itself from the church. After investigation, the court also took away the tax exempt status of the Japanese branch of the church and ordered its dissolution. On July 8, 2022, Abe was giving a speech outside a railway station in Nara. Then the sound of two bullets was heard in the TV footage. Abe fell on the ground and his shirt turned red with blood. He died instantly. The officers had caught Revayamagami from the spot. The accused also apologized to Abe’s wife in the court and said that he had no personal dispute with the family.
