Missile attack in Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia, embassy advised to remain alert

Riyadh. The situation has now become clear regarding the recent missile attack on a residential complex in Al-Kharj city of Saudi Arabia. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh issued an official statement on Monday denying the reports which claimed the death of an Indian citizen. Sharing information on social media platform X, the Indian Embassy said that they are in constant touch with the Saudi authorities and are closely monitoring the entire situation. Seeing the seriousness of the incident, Community Welfare Counselor Y. Sabir himself visited Al-Kharj late on Sunday night. He met the injured Indian citizen admitted in the hospital there and inquired about his health. The Embassy clarified that no Indian has lost his life in this unfortunate incident, which is a matter of great relief. However, an Indian national has been injured in the attack, who is currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Al-Kharj.
The clarification comes after initial reports claimed that two people, including an Indian, were killed when a projectile hit the residence of a maintenance and cleaning company. At the same time, in another statement issued by the General Directorate of Saudi Civil Defense, it was said that two foreign nationals were killed and 12 other people were injured in this military projectile attack. There are also reports of heavy damage to residential premises due to the attack. The local administration has termed such attacks on civilian structures as a serious violation of international humanitarian law. In view of the current instability and increasing tension in West Asia, the Indian Embassy has also issued an important advisory for the Indian community living in Saudi Arabia. The Embassy has directed all Indian citizens to remain extremely vigilant and strictly follow the safety guidelines issued from time to time by the local administration. Citizens have been asked to give priority to advice from the embassy or local authorities in any emergency. Despite the regional situation, the Embassy has assured that Indian diplomatic offices in Riyadh and Jeddah are functioning normally and regular consular camps are also being organized to assist Indians. The situation regarding transport services is also said to be normal; Flights of various airlines to India are operating smoothly from major cities like Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. It is noteworthy that in recent weeks, due to increasing military tension between Iran and other countries, security concerns have increased in the entire Gulf region, the effect of which is now visible in the form of these attacks on civilian areas.
