Northern Nigeria again shaken, more than 30 dead due to firing in village, many villagers kidnapped

New Delhi: Once again a bloody attack has taken place in the northern part of Nigeria. Armed men killed 30 people and abducted many villagers in a village in Niger state. Police confirmed this on Sunday. This area is already struggling with violence and insecurity. According to the police, the attack took place on Saturday evening in Kasuwan-Daji village of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

Armed attackers suddenly entered the village and started firing directly at the people. After the firing, the attackers set fire to the village market and many houses, causing huge damage. Papiri community is located near Kasuwan-Daji village, where more than 300 children and teachers were abducted from a Catholic school in November last year.

The number of deaths may increase further
Niger State Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said that at least 30 people had died in the attack. However, some people of the village say that the death toll could be 37 or more, because many people are still missing. Till Sunday, no trace of some villagers was found, due to which the death toll is expected to increase further. The villagers also alleged that the security forces have not yet reached the village after the attack. He says that no presence of police and army was seen, whereas the police claims that soldiers have been deployed to search for the kidnapped people.

No fear of police in Nigeria
Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, but security is weak in many remote areas. Criminal gangs and armed miscreants remain active in such areas. These gangs often attack villages, kill people and kidnap for ransom. According to the police, the armed people who attacked Kasuwan-Daji had come from the National Park Forest and Kabwe district. There are large and deserted forests in these areas, which often become hiding places for armed gangs.
