So far, 31 people have been confirmed dead in this attack, while 169 people are said to be injured. The number of dead and injured is expected to increase.
According to media reports, eyewitnesses while narrating the blast said that a large number of people were present in the mosque for Friday prayers. As soon as information about the incident was received, police and rescue teams reached the spot and relief and rescue operations were started. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. Islamabad police chief has declared emergency in the entire city and security has been tightened. Hospitals have been put on high alert so that immediate medical aid can be provided to the injured.
According to officials, so far no terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. Security agencies have started investigating the matter and are trying to find out the reasons behind the attack.
