Sumit Arora, who has written dialogues for brilliant films like ‘Border 2’, ‘Jawaan’ and ‘Stree’, is one of the leading film writers of our time. Sumit, who is tasting success today, made his debut with television. But when he started earning good money, even his family members were surprised. Not only this, he suspected whether Sumit had joined any gang in Mumbai.
Worked as a trainee in Balaji Telefilms
In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Sumit Arora talked about his journey. He told that I came to Mumbai at the age of 18, I knew very little English and had no experience in writing. I only knew how to write simple. I did not get any work in films. I had only Rs 4000, which would be exhausted in 10 days. I started working as a trainee writer at Balaji Telefilms, which provided me a place to live and good money. Now I’m grateful for that experience. It taught me a lot and brought me success and money at an early age.
Family members were surprised to see him earning more money at a young age
Sumit started earning well at the age of just 20. But his family members were surprised to see him earning lakhs of rupees at such a young age. Sharing a funny anecdote, Sumit told that I was earning a lot of money at a young age. Within two years, I started earning 10-15 times more than my father’s salary. Seeing this, my father was told that I had joined some underworld gang in Mumbai. He was told, ‘What is your son doing, where is so much money coming from’. Now I laugh, but at the time it was a serious conversation.
Dialogues written for ‘Jawan’, ‘Stree’ and ‘Border 2’
After writing for TV, Sumit made a short film in 2015. Then he met ‘Stree’ director Amar Kaushik. After this he wrote the dialogues of ‘Stree’. The dialogues of the film were a hit. Sumit’s car started from here. Then he wrote for Manoj Bajpayee’s popular series ‘The Family Man’ and then he got Shahrukh Khan’s blockbuster film ‘Jawaan’. After writing the dialogues of ‘Jawaan’, Sumit has also written the dialogues of the recently released film ‘Border 2’. However, Sumit calls ‘Stree’ his favorite among all these films, because it was his first film.
