Yunus government should decide the security of every citizen, irrespective of religion.

Geneva. The United Nations has expressed concern over the incidents of targeting of minorities amid violence in Bangladesh. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, issued a statement saying that we are concerned about the situation in Bangladesh. We appeal to the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the security of every citizen, irrespective of religion.
According to media reports, protests and violent incidents have been taking place in many cities including Dhaka since last week in Bangladesh. These violent incidents have started after the death of youth leader Osman Hadi. During this time, the murder of Dipu Chandradas at the hands of the mob has attracted the attention of the world including the UN. Deepu was not only murdered by the mob on charges of blasphemy but his body was also burnt. Stephane Dujarric expressed concern over violence in Bangladesh, saying that people who are not from the majority community also have the right to feel safe. In such a situation, it is necessary that the interim government of Yunus takes steps to stop the incidents of violence in Bangladesh.
According to the report, Guterres’ spokesperson expressed hope that the Yunus government will make every possible effort to keep every Bangladeshi safe. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has called on the people of Bangladesh to maintain peace and end violence. He said that it is important to create a safe and peaceful environment for everyone before the elections to be held in February. America has also expressed concern over the situation in Bangladesh.
Congress Raja Krishnamurthy said that I am shocked by the targeted mob killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh. Suhas Subramaniam has also called the attacks on minority communities in Dhaka worrying. There has been political turmoil in Bangladesh for more than a year. Right-wing forces are clearly visible behind these demonstrations. In such a situation, minorities and liberal minded people are being targeted in their demonstrations.
