Mamdani meets Trump at White House after political confrontation

Washington. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani meets with Donald Trump at the White House. This was an important meeting between these two opposite-minded leaders, after continuing differences and political confrontation in recent months. The special thing was that this meeting of the two leaders was not a part of a pre-planned public program. Mamdani described this conversation as a meaningful meeting. He said he looks forward to building more housing in New York City.
According to media reports, Mayor Mamdani has made some proposals which will enable construction of more houses in just a few projects than have been built in the last 50 years. No further details were immediately provided about the scope, location or financing of the proposed housing projects. This meeting also took an unexpected turn regarding immigration. After leaving the White House, Zoharan Mamdani wrote in a post on X that in our last meeting I expressed my concern about the Columbia student who was detained by ICE on Friday morning. They have just informed me that he will be released soon. Aghayeva was later released.
He was taken into custody early Thursday after federal agents entered a residential building on Columbia University’s Manhattan campus, according to reports. Columbia University said that immigration officials gave false information to gain entry into the building in order to arrest him. The acting president said that our understanding at this time is that federal agents gave false information to gain entry into the building while searching for a missing person. We are trying to gather more information.
Let us tell you that the White House did not give any immediate reaction on this meeting. The meeting reflects the changing relations between Democratic socialist Mamdani and Republican President Trump. Trump has often criticized cities where the Democratic Party is in power, especially regarding immigration and central government policies. Despite sharp rhetoric during the election campaign, the two have now met more than once in the Oval Office.
