IPL’s economy messed up, know how the loss of Rs 6600 crore happened

Even though the 2025 IPL tournament was in the name of RCB and Virat Kohli, there was nothing special for the overall economy of IPL. The special thing is that there has been a big decline in the value of the entire ecosystem of IPL as compared to last year, this decline is said to be Rs 6600 crores. The special thing is that there has been a decline of 10 percent in the brand value of RCB, which won the IPL. Whereas Chennai Super Kings, which has won the most number of IPL Cups in the history of IPL, has seen a huge decline of 24 percent in its value. At the same time, Mumbai Indians, the most valuable franchise of IPL, has also suffered losses. Gujarat Titans is the only franchise whose brand value has seen an increase. Let us also tell you what kind of story the figures are telling.

Decreased brand value

According to new data from Brand Finance, the brand value of the Indian Premier League has declined by 20 percent from $ 12 billion a year ago to $ 9.6 billion in 2025. This decline has occurred due to geopolitical tensions in the region and uncertainties regarding mega-auctions. Due to the ongoing dispute between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India had to postpone all the matches including the playoffs for a week due to security concerns. Apart from the pandemic-hit 2020 season, this is the only year that the IPL’s ecosystem value has declined since Brand Finance tracked the league.

Loss of about 6600 crores

In a report published in October, D&P Advisory had already flagged a two-year decline in the league’s valuation, putting the IPL’s valuation at Rs 76,100 crore ($8.8 billion) in 2025, compared to Rs 82,700 crore ($9.9 billion) in 2024 and Rs 92,500 crore ($11.2 billion) in 2023. , The firm said media consolidation and the government’s ban on real-money gaming sponsors have slowed the IPL’s once-exponential growth trajectory.

Only Gujarat increased, RCB, Mumbai decreased

Only Gujarat Titans registered an increase in brand value. Mumbai Indians retained their position as the most valuable franchise with $108 million. However, their brand value declined by 9 percent. Royal Challengers Bangalore finished second with $105 million, 10 per cent less despite winning their first IPL title this season.

The brand value of Chennai Super Kings declined by a huge 24% to $93 million, while the brand value of Kolkata Knight Riders declined by 33% to $73 million. Gujarat Titans was the only franchise to register growth, with its brand value rising 2 per cent to $70 million.

Punjab Kings fell 3 percent to $66 million, Lucknow Super Giants fell 2 percent to $59 million and Delhi Capitals fell 26 percent to $59 million. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s valuation fell by 34 per cent to $56 million, and Rajasthan Royals saw the biggest decline of 35 per cent to $53 million.
