The total area of ​​summer crops decreased, but the sowing area of ​​pulses and oilseeds increased; Millet sown in 0.31 lakh hectares

The premature end of winter is adversely affecting the sowing of summer crops. The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released the sowing figures. Of these, till February 27, sowing was less in 0.89 lakh hectares as compared to last year. Summer crops have been sown on a total of 26.53 lakh hectares in the country. The shocking fact is that the sowing of crops in the same time period in 2025 was on an area of ​​27.42 lakh hectares. There has been an increase in the sowing of pulses, but the sowing of paddy has decreased. If we look at the data, so far paddy has been sown on an area of ​​21.80 lakh hectares, whereas in the summer season 2025, it was sown in 23.45 lakh hectares during the same period.

Increase in total area of ​​pulses

The total area under pulses has increased. In this, pulses have been sown in 1.15 lakh hectares till 27 February 2026, whereas in the same time period in the last season, this area was 1.03 lakh hectares. In this way, the total area under pulses has increased by 0.12 lakh hectares. This time there has also been a rise in the sowing of green gram. So far, gram has been sown in 0.73 lakh hectares. In the last season it was only 0.70 lakh hectares. There is also a rise in sowing of black gram. So far, millet has been sown in 0.31 lakh hectares, whereas in the previous period it was 0.21 lakh hectares. There has been an increase of 0.10 lakh hectares. Sowing of Ragi is also very fast. So far, ragi has been sown in 0.17 lakh hectares.
