Crime surge in Bangladesh in 2025…………women and children are most tortured

Dhaka. The crime rate of Bangladesh will reach dangerous levels in the year 2025. During this period, women and children suffered the most atrocities, while incidents like murder, robbery and mob lynching also increased. According to analysts, the increase in crime is the result of law and order challenges. After the coup, the interim government of Muhammad Yunus has failed to create a normal environment. Citing police crime figures, Bangladesh’s Bangla newspaper reported that a total of 1,81,737 cases, including rescue-related cases, were registered in 2025, some of which were related to incidents in 2024. In this, most of the cases were related to violence against women and children. Last year, police registered 21,936 cases of violence against women and children across Bangladesh, followed by 12,740 thefts and 3,785 murder cases.
Incidents of robbery also increased, as per police records, 1,935 cases of robbery were registered.
Apart from this, 702 cases of robbery, 988 cases under the Speedy Trial Act, 66 cases of rioting, 1,101 cases of kidnapping, 601 cases of attack on police and 81,738 other cases were registered across the country.
Last year, there were massive demonstrations across Bangladesh after the murder of four and a half year old Roza Mani. The girl’s body was found in a garbage dump in Tejkunipara near Bijoy Sarani overpass on May 13, 2025, a day before she went missing from Tejgaon area in Dhaka.
Apart from the Roza Mani case, nearly 1,000 cases of child abuse were reported in Dhaka last year, while similar incidents were also reported from educational institutions and workplaces across the country. Associate professor and criminologist at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, Dhaka University, said that in 2025, we all will see some scary aspects in the crime statistics. Crime has increased due to law and order situation not being completely normal. Its biggest impact has been on women and children.
