US Supreme Court bans Trump’s tariffs

In fact, the US Supreme Court rejected a large part of President Donald Trump’s comprehensive tariff policy, saying that the relevant law does not give the President the authority to impose such import duties. After this, Trump announced the implementation of a new global tariff of 10 percent on all trading partner countries, which is being considered as the next phase of his trade strategy.

How is India’s position strong?

Responding to this, Chandrima Chatterjee said that the industry is assessing what impact these changes will have on the India-US bilateral trade agreement (BTA). He said that earlier India had a slight tariff advantage over some competing countries, but India’s position will remain good even if the global 10 percent tariff is implemented. He stressed that it is very important to continue the ongoing bilateral negotiations between India and the US, because apart from tariffs, Indian exporters can also get benefits in the form of investment, technology exchange and cooperation. Chatterjee also said that the US is a major market for Indian textile exports and the total export Its stake is about 30 percent. According to him, the Supreme Court’s decision will bring more clarity and stability in the policy, allowing Indian exporters to further strengthen their hold in the US market and explore further growth opportunities.
