Kiev. Diplomatic efforts have intensified at the international level to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. An important development in the direction of peacekeeping has recently come to light, where a new security framework has been agreed upon in a high-level meeting between the President of Ukraine and European leaders. The biggest result of this meeting is the commitment made by Britain and France, under which in the event of a ceasefire, both these countries will be able to deploy their troops on Ukrainian soil. In this regard, both the countries have signed a formal Declaration of Intent, which will act as a protective shield to prevent possible attacks by Russia in future. According to the outline of this agreement, if the ceasefire comes into force, Britain and France will establish their military bases in Ukraine.
The main objective of these bases will be to create secure infrastructure for weapons and military equipment. This step is considered to be a solution to the main concern of President Zelensky, in which he has often expressed the fear that Russia could use the ceasefire to regroup its military power and attack again in the future. The presence of foreign troops will serve as a concrete guarantee for Ukraine. While discussing the detailed aspects of the agreement, it has been made clear that the forces of British, French and other allied countries will remain active on Ukrainian soil. Their primary task will be to ensure the security of Ukraine’s air and sea borders and to prepare the Ukrainian military technically and tactically for future challenges. However, many challenges still remain in this path of peace. Western leaders have cautioned that any lasting peace agreement is only possible if the Russian leadership is genuinely prepared to negotiate. Given the current circumstances and Russia’s recent military actions, there seems to be little clear desire for peace at the moment. America’s role in this entire incident is also going to be very important. In the recent multilateral meeting, which was attended by representatives of about 35 countries, it was decided that the US would take the main responsibility of monitoring and implementing any possible ceasefire. There will also be active cooperation of European countries in this. President Zelensky welcomed this initiative and expressed gratitude towards America and other allied countries. The agreement is not only an attempt to stop the war, but it also offers a larger strategic blueprint for securing Ukraine’s sovereignty over the long term.
