Washington. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino announced Wednesday that he will resign from his post in January, 10 months after starting the job. Bongino, 51, did not give a reason for his resignation on X, but President Donald Trump said he thought Bongino wanted to return to his popular podcast. Bongino had a background in law enforcement before joining the FBI. He had worked as a New York police officer and a Secret Service agent, but his appointment was unusual because the number two position in the FBI is traditionally held by a career employee.
His tenure at the FBI began in March and was fraught with reports of tension with Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to media reports. In his ex-post, Bongino thanked Trump, Bondi, and the FBI director for the opportunity to serve the cause. Bongino’s eponymous podcast has the largest number of listeners in the country and frequently spreads conspiracy theories, including claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump.
