FIR against Ranveer Singh in Bengaluru, allegation of hurting religious sentiments

Bengaluru: An FIR has been registered against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The actor is accused of hurting religious sentiments by his statement given on a public platform. This case is said to be related to Karnataka’s traditional ‘Bhoot Kola’ and Daiva tradition. At present, these allegations are under investigation and no official response has come from Ranveer Singh.

What is the whole matter?

According to complainant Prashant Methil (46), Ranveer Singh made some funny expressions during a public event and compared it to the Daiva tradition shown in the film Kantara. The complaint alleges that the actor addressed Chavundi Daiva as a “female ghost”, which hurt the religious beliefs of certain sections of the society.

The complainant says that addressing the deities in this manner is condemnable and can disturb social harmony. He also alleged that this comment was deliberately made on an international platform.

Under which sections was the FIR registered?

According to media reports, on the instructions of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACJM) court, Bengaluru Police has registered a case under sections 196, 299 and 302 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) and started investigation.

The program was held in Goa

It is being told that the program over which the controversy took place was organized in Goa on 28 January 2026. At the time of filing of FIR, Ranveer Singh is in New York, where he has gone to attend a private function.
