‘I want to do light roles’, Taapsee Pannu raised questions on being typecast; Said- Perception has to be broken

Taapsee Pannu is receiving accolades for her recent release film ‘Assi’. The film is also being appreciated a lot by the critics. However, like every time, this time too despite good content and praises, the film’s box office is growing at a slow pace. Meanwhile, Taapsee Pannu raised questions on the issue of choosing the same type of actors for the same type of character. This is Taapsee’s third film with Anubhav Sinha, before this both have worked together in ‘Mulk’ and ‘Thappad’.

No one wants to come out of their comfort zone

During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Taapsee Pannu revealed that she has questioned many leading directors about the repeated casting choices in their films. The actress said that it is difficult. Not for me, but it’s hard for people to imagine because we live so happily in the comfort zone of our imagination. ‘Okay, it’s this kind of role, so it will be fine.’ No one wants to think outside the box. When I go to meet some of the top directors here, I get to talk to them. First of all I have to break the notion that I am comfortable doing films in which I am not in the lead role. That means the story is not mine. Then I have to tell them that I want to do some light roles. It is not that if I have to be in a film then there should be no problem associated with it.

i always raise questions

Taapsee further said that I really question him. Why do you always choose the same face for the same characters? This is injustice to them also. It is also unfair to people like me who want to experiment in their art. As a director, it’s your complacency to think that hey, this is a certain kind of character and who are the girls who look like her? Just these girls. Then she will do the same thing in some other film which she has done before. But maybe when I do something like this, I will come up with something new.

Taapsee is famous for women-centric films and strong characters.

Taapsee Pannu is seen in the role of a lawyer in ‘Assi’. Before this, Taapsee had also played the role of a lawyer in Anubhav Sinha’s film ‘Mulk’. Taapsee Pannu is often known for playing female-centric and powerful roles. Apart from ‘Assi’ and ‘Mulk’, his such films include ‘Thappad’, ‘Pink’, ‘Badla’ and ‘Saand Ki Aankh’. However, apart from this, he has also played some different types of characters in his career, which include ‘Chashme Baddoor’, ‘Judwaa 2’, ‘Haseen Dilruba’, ‘Danky’ and ‘Khel Khel Mein’.
