‘No one can understand the pain of a rape victim’, Kani Kushruti told how she prepared for her character in ‘Assi’

Actress Kani Kushruti, who made headlines with the role of Kaveri in Huma Qureshi starrer hit web series ‘Maharani’, will soon be seen in Anubhav Sinha’s film ‘Assi’. She is playing the role of a rape victim in this film. During this, the actress talked about her character in the film. He says that it is impossible to completely understand the pain of a rape victim. The actress told how she prepared for her character.

Kushinagar

We tried to get closer to this pain. Talking to PTI, Kani Kushruti said about her character that I don’t think anyone can feel the pain of a rape victim exactly. As an actress, we tried to get closest to this. Many times it feels like you are in that situation because you are almost convinced that it has happened to you. But I am not an actress who gets into that situation completely, because it will affect you. I don’t do that. As a woman who has grown up in this country since childhood, am I aware of such attacks or traumas? Yes, probably, because people close to me have gone through it. So sometimes it’s one of those things that you connect with unconsciously.

To get justice one has to go through that pain again

The actress further said that the film helped her understand the nature of the legal system in such cases in India. Often court proceedings can rekindle past pain. Recalling conversations I had with my friends who were facing similar issues. The actress said that to get justice you have to go through that pain, so there is an irony and contradiction in the system, but that is the way to get justice. You can’t forget it. There is also a line in the film, ‘They won’t let you forget it.’

The film will be released on 20 February

‘Assi’, directed by Anubhav Sinha, is the story of Parima (Kani), a married woman living in Delhi, who is kidnapped and sexually assaulted by some men. The film is based on the police investigation and subsequent legal battle following this tragic incident. Taapsee Pannu has played the role of a lawyer in the film. Apart from this, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Kumud Mishra and Revati are also seen in lead roles in the film. While Naseeruddin Shah and Supriya Pathak are in special roles. ‘Assi’ is releasing in theaters on 20th February.
