
London.There was panic at Terminal 3 of Heathrow Airport after reports of people being attacked with pepper spray in a multi-storey car park. According to the Metropolitan Police, a group of attackers used pepper spray on several people and then fled the scene. The incident occurred at 8.11 am, immediately after which there was chaos in the airport premises and surrounding areas.
As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot, but by then most of the attackers had fled. However, a suspect has been arrested and is being interrogated by the armed police. Initial investigation has revealed that the attack was the result of a personal dispute and the people involved already knew each other. Police have clarified that this is not being considered a terrorism related case, but as a precaution, security has been increased at the airport. London Ambulance Service also immediately reached the spot and the affected people were taken to the hospital. According to initial reports, no one’s injuries are serious and all the injured are undergoing treatment. London Fire Brigade also arrived to assist at 8.14pm and are still at the scene. Calling it an important incident, officials have deployed several teams for relief and security operations.
Heathrow Airport authorities have advised passengers to bring extra time and check with the airline for information regarding their flights. Traffic was affected for some time due to the attack, but later the situation started returning to normal. Initial panic was definitely seen among the passengers, however, due to the prompt action of the security agencies, the situation came under control. Police are continuing to investigate the case and are searching for the remaining attackers.
