Putin invites Zelensky to come to Moscow, hope for peace once again awakened

Moscow. A step has been taken towards ending the fierce war between Russia and Ukraine that has been going on for the last four years, which has shocked the entire world. Keeping aside the hatred and bitterness that was being talked about between Zelensky and Putin till now, Russia has opened its doors for talks for the first time. Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Moscow for peace talks. This step means that now both the countries can sit face to face and try to resolve this bloody conflict without the interference of any third party.
This news from the Kremlin on Thursday has intensified the stir in international security corridors. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the invitation had been sent, although there has been no official response or confirmation from the Zelensky administration yet. Experts believe that if this meeting is successful, it could prove to be the biggest diplomatic victory of the century. Amidst this huge stir, US President Donald Trump has also shown activism. Trump has claimed that he has had a long phone conversation with Russian President Putin. During a Cabinet meeting in Washington, Trump revealed that he had personally urged Putin to stop attacks on Kiev and other Ukrainian cities on humanitarian grounds. According to Trump, he had told Putin to stop military actions in view of the bone-chilling cold in Ukraine. Trump claimed that Putin had agreed to his request and promised not to attack Kiev for at least a week. Terming it as Putin’s bigotry, Trump said that those who were saying the phone call was useless have been proved wrong. Ukraine is currently facing an unprecedented energy crisis and severe cold. Ukraine’s power grid has been badly damaged due to Russia’s recent attacks, leaving millions without electricity and heating. In such conditions where bone-chilling cold is causing death, a week-long ceasefire and the proposal for direct talks in Moscow has brought a new ray of peace. Now the eyes of the whole world are fixed on Zelensky’s answer whether he accepts this invitation and moves towards ending the war or not.
