Suicide attack in mosque during Friday prayers, 31 people killed, 169 injured

Islamabad. A massive suicide attack was carried out targeting a Shia Mosque (Imambada) during Friday prayers in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Friday. So far, 31 people have been confirmed dead in this attack, while 169 people are said to be injured. The number of dead and injured is expected to increase.
According to media reports, eyewitnesses while narrating the blast said that a large number of people were present in the mosque for Friday prayers. Meanwhile, a suicide bomber blew himself up, causing chaos in the mosque premises. The explosion was so powerful that even the glasses of the surrounding buildings were broken. As soon as information about the incident was received, police and rescue teams reached the spot and relief and rescue operations were started. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. Islamabad police chief has declared emergency in the entire city and security has been tightened. Hospitals have been put on high alert so that immediate medical aid can be provided to the injured.
According to officials, so far no terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. Security agencies have started investigating the matter and are trying to find out the reasons behind the attack.
President Zardari called the incident against humanity
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep condolences on this attack. He said that targeting innocent people is a crime against humanity. The President wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and directed the administration to provide the best possible treatment to the victims.
Terrorist incidents cannot break morale: Chaudhary
Pakistan’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary strongly condemned the attack on social media and said that such terrorist incidents cannot break the morale of the country and its people. He appealed to the public to maintain peace and cooperate with security agencies. This terrorist attack in Islamabad has once again raised serious questions about the security system and communal violence in Pakistan.
