There will be no shortage of fertilizer now, but a prolonged war may increase the crisis.

There is currently adequate availability of fertilizer for farmers in the country, but if the ongoing conflict in West Asia continues for a long time, then problems may arise in the coming months. This information has been given by a senior official of the government company Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT). FACT is a large supplier of fertilizers in the states of South India. The company depends on raw materials such as rock phosphate and phosphoric acid to make fertilizers, which are brought to India via sea route from several countries in West Asia and the Middle East.

At present, adequate availability of urea in the country

Managing Director of the company S. Saktimani said that at present there is sufficient availability of urea in the country and there will be no problem for the Kharif season. He expressed hope that the war situation could return to normal within a month. S. According to Saktimani there is currently no harvesting season in India, and it will start only after July. He assured that there is adequate availability of urea for the Kharif season and hoped that the war situation would be resolved within a month. Farmers will not face any problem due to this.

Supply may be affected

However, he warned that if this situation continues for six months, the supply of fertilizer in the next crop season, i.e. Rabi season, may be affected. Seeing this possibility, the government and companies are already taking necessary steps. FACT receives gas not only from the Middle East, but also from Australia. At present there is no major problem in gas supply, although there is instability at some places, but this is not a matter of concern for the fertilizer sector. The official also said that the Central Government has purchased the stock of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Double Super Phosphate (DSP) from various companies, which will not cause any problem.

Stock of 1.4 lakh metric tons of fertilizer

It has been told that at present the company has a stock of about 1.4 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer. The company is in a position to produce approximately 1.5 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer during March and April 2026. The company aims to produce about 5.5 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer for the Kharif season by September 2026, while it also plans to import about 1 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizer. The company said that farmers need not panic. With the help of the government, every possible step is being taken to maintain the supply of fertilizer. Let us tell you that in India, Kharif crops are sown with the arrival of monsoon in June-July and are harvested in September-October, whereas Rabi crops are sown in October-November and are harvested by April-May. Urea is widely used to increase yields in both the seasons.
