Washington. US President Donald Trump has made it clear to his national security team that if America takes any military action against Iran, then it should be swift and decisive. Actually Trump does not want to get trapped in a long war. However, his advisors have not been able to assure that the US attack will quickly topple Iran’s current regime. Officials have warned that the US does not have enough military resources in the region to counter a possible aggressive response from Iran following an attack. Therefore, Trump can initially approve limited military action, while the option of major action will remain open if needed.
Meanwhile, Reza Pahlavi, son of the former Shah of Iran, shared the vision of a democratic Iran. He said that the current regime associates Iran with terrorism, fanaticism and poverty, whereas the real Iran is a peace-loving, prosperous and beautiful country. According to him, an independent Iran would stop its nuclear program, end terrorist support and engage in regional joint efforts. Pahlavi proposed normalizing relations with the US, recognizing Israel, and cooperating with Arab countries under the ‘Cyrus Accords’. In the energy sector, he promised to make Iran a reliable and transparent supplier. Emphasis was also laid on transparency in governance, strict control on corruption and adoption of global standards. Reza Pahlavi called on the international community to stand with the Iranian people and said a secular democratic government would be beneficial not only for Iran, but for the entire region and the world. The US military has not currently deployed sufficient resources for a large-scale operation, but there are aircraft, ships and personnel in the area capable of carrying out targeted strikes.
