Former IPL player suspended on match fixing charges, ICC took major action

Kolkata. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has temporarily suspended West Indies fast bowling all-rounder Javon Searles, taking strict action in case of violation of anti-corruption rules. According to ICC, Sarles is accused of violating the anti-corruption code. The matter pertains to the Bim10 League played in Barbados in 2023-24. It is alleged that during this tournament, a conspiracy was hatched to influence the outcome of the match and the state of the game. In this case, not only Sears, but Titans team owner Chittaranjan Rathod and team official Trayvon Griffith have also come under the scanner. ICC and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have taken action against all three under the Anti-Corruption Code and temporarily suspended them.

Sarles has played in IPL

Jevon Sarles played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League. In IPL 2018, he played 4 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders and took 2 wickets. Sarls has also played for the West Indies Under-19 team, but he did not get a chance to play for the senior international team.

Many serious allegations against all three

According to the ICC statement, all three have been charged under several sections of the Anti-Corruption Code. Chittaranjan Rathore has been charged with three counts under the Anti-Corruption Code of Cricket West Indies. Javon Searles has been charged with four counts. Trayvon Griffith has been charged with four charges under the CWI Code and one charge under the ICC Anti-Corruption Code. These charges include conspiracy to fix matches, inciting players and support staff to engage in corrupt activities and non-cooperation in the investigation. According to the ICC, all three tried to unfairly influence the results of matches or other aspects of the game of Bim10 League 2023-24. Apart from this, not giving information about some suspicious offers or contacts to the authorities is also considered a violation of anti-corruption rules.

Will have to answer within 14 days

ICC has given all three accused a chance to reply within 14 days. During this time, the Anti-Corruption Unit will continue investigating the case. This case is said to be part of a larger investigation already underway. Earlier, American player Aaron Jones has also been accused in five cases of violation of anti-corruption rules of Cricket West Indies and ICC.
