BNP’s Hindu MP raised questions on India’s foreign policy…did not ask anyone except Hasina

Dhaka. BNP alliance has registered a landslide victory in the recent elections of Bangladesh. BNP won 212 seats in the elections held on February 12 and party leader Tariq Rehman is taking oath as Prime Minister on February 17. Three Hindu MPs have also been elected in this election, in which Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, who won from Dhaka-3, is a probable minister. Goyeshwar has previously been a minister in the BNP government and is a supporter of good relations with India, but according to him India never took action on the oppression of Hindus in Bangladesh.
BNP MP Roy said that before the elections, BNP presented its plans to the public and talked about paying special attention to the youth. He says that the BNP government will create law and order, strengthen the economy and focus on increasing exports. He stressed that every person in Bangladesh has equal rights as per the Constitution and the government and administration work impartially. He also said that many people of Hindu community were tortured during Hasina government, but India never took any action on this.
Goyeshwar explained that support for the BNP included people of all religions…Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Christians—and Bangladesh has a long tradition of communal harmony. He praised the interim government, saying it conducted free and fair elections but could not function at its full capacity due to economic and law and order challenges. Now the elected government should work according to the Constitution and law and not according to party preferences.
Goyeshwar raised questions on India’s foreign policy. He says that India befriended only Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh and ignored BNP leaders. India should admit that it made mistakes in its previous policies. He said that Hasina should not be given sanctuary in India and all criminals should face the court. He believes that good relations with neighboring countries are important and should not depend only on the greatness of any one party or country, but should be based on equality and mutual respect.
