
Washington. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 in Alaska, America, shook even Canada. People panicked and came out of their homes. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was about 370 kilometers northwest of Juneau, the capital of Alaska, and about 250 kilometers west of Whitehorse, Canada. The tremors were so strong that people felt the ground shaking even in areas thousands of kilometers away. However, it is a matter of relief that till now there is no news of any major damage or injury to anyone. Additionally, officials have also made it clear that there is no danger of tsunami from this earthquake.
The nearest Canadian city to the epicenter was Haines Junction, about 130 kilometers from the epicenter. According to the 2022 census, about 1,000 people live here. At the same time, the American city of Yakutat, which has a population of 662, is only 90 kilometers away from the epicenter of the earthquake. Therefore, people in both the areas became very scared. The depth of the earthquake is said to be about 10 kilometers, that is, very close to the surface, due to which the tremors were felt even more. After this, many small aftershocks were recorded, due to which there is fear among the people. Calista McCloud, an officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Whitehorse, Canada, said she received emergency calls immediately after the earthquake. He said, ‘The tremors were felt quite strong. A large number of people are also reporting on social media that their houses shook. According to Alison Bird, a seismologist at Natural Resources Canada, the area most affected by the earthquake is a very mountainous and sparsely populated area. He said that as per the information received so far, only incidents of items falling from the walls and shelves of houses have been reported, but no structural damage has been confirmed.
