Today, Sunday, January 25, new rates of petrol and diesel have been released across the country. Government oil companies update fuel prices every day at 6 am.

Today in Delhi, petrol remains stable at ₹ 94.77 per liter and diesel at ₹ 87.67 per liter. If you are planning to fill your car’s tank today, then it is important for you to know the latest rates in your city.

Change in prices of petrol and diesel?

Today, a slight difference has been seen in the prices of petrol and diesel in many big cities, while in some cities the prices have remained stable. A slight decline in petrol prices has been recorded in cities like Kolkata and Lucknow, while a slight increase in prices has been seen in Chennai, Gurugram and Bhubaneswar. Diesel prices have also increased in some cities, although there has been no change in Delhi and Mumbai.

Petrol is being sold at ₹ 94.77 per liter in the country’s capital Delhi. Its price has been recorded at ₹ 103.54 in Mumbai, ₹ 105.41 in Kolkata and ₹ 101.06 per liter in Chennai. In cities like Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram, petrol has crossed ₹ 107. Due to rising prices there is additional burden on consumers. Talking about diesel, it is being sold at ₹ 87.67 per liter in Delhi, ₹ 90.03 in Mumbai and ₹ 92.02 per liter in Kolkata. Diesel in Chennai has reached the level of ₹ 92.61 per liter while in Thiruvananthapuram it has reached the level of ₹ 96.48 per liter. In some cities, diesel prices have seen an increase of 10 to 27 paise.

Who decides the prices of petrol and diesel?

Petrol and diesel prices in India are not decided directly by the central government, but are decided taking into account many factors like international crude oil prices, position of the rupee against the dollar, tax structure and transportation costs.

Oil marketing companies determine the prices after assessing all these economic conditions, following which is mandatory at all petrol pumps. Fluctuations in fuel prices have a direct impact on the pockets of the common people and inflation. Due to expensive transport, the prices of everyday items are also affected. In such a situation, consumers are constantly keeping an eye on fuel prices.
