The film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, is making huge collections in theaters and shocking figures of its earnings are coming out. The film has easily collected Rs 500 crore in just 10 days and its earnings have seen a rise with time. Due to the story of the film, the interest of the audience has not only increased but the characters of the film are also gaining a lot of popularity. In such a situation, it would be unfair not to talk about its casting.
Now the casting director of the film Mukesh Chhabra has talked in detail about the casting of the film during a recent interaction. He has told how many actors were considered to choose each character of this film. Also, Akshay Khanna was also not the first choice for this role.
While talking about the film, Dhurandhar’s casting director Mukesh Chhabra said – I always think about how to surprise people and how to make casting more interesting and funny. I wanted to do the same with this film. People were accepting the twist in this film, so I also wanted to bring a twist in this casting. I wanted every person to see the casting of the film and say that no one has been cast randomly but a lot of effort has been put into the casting.
Casting was discussed for 2-4 hours every day
We spent a lot of time in the casting of each person in this film and just thought about which actor would be more suitable for which role. There was a lot of debate to finalize each actor for the role in the film. We used to just discuss whether Sanju Baba, Akshay Khanna, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan would be suitable for the film or not. Aditya Dhar and I used to sit for 2 to 4 hours a day and just discuss whether this would work or not. Is there any other way to surprise people? Can anyone else be liked for these characters? Earlier for this film we had some faces who had done good work on OTT. But then we chose big names according to the film.
Casting the role of Rehman Dacoit was not easy
Mukesh told that he spent most of his time liking the character of Rehman the dacoit. The names of 50-60 actors were discussed for this role. Many of the actors in this were from the South. But considering his work in the films Chhaava, Hamraaj, Border and Dil Chahte Hai, he was finally chosen for this role. You can do a good casting only when you get more time to choose someone. Good casting cannot be done suddenly like this.
Talking about Dhurandhar film, the collection of this film is going quite well in theatres. According to reports, the budget of the film is said to be Rs 280 crores. In comparison, the film has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark in India within 10 days of its release, while the worldwide collection of the film has also crossed Rs 500 crore. It remains to be seen how the film fares in the future.
