Violence again in Gaza, 19 people died in Israeli firing

Even after the implementation of the ceasefire in Gaza Strip, the violence does not seem to be stopping. In the latest development, at least 19 Palestinian civilians were killed in Israeli firing, a large number of whom are said to be women and children. Hospital officials have confirmed the deaths. Israel has said that the action was taken in response to militant firing on its soldiers.

What was the reason given for the attack?

According to the Israeli military, the militants first opened fire on troops deployed in Gaza, seriously injuring a reserve soldier. After this, the army retaliated through air and ground units. The army termed it a violation of the ceasefire agreement and said retaliatory firing was necessary for the safety of the soldiers.

How many people were killed, who were involved?

According to hospital officials, the dead included seven women and five children. The dead also include a five-month-old infant and a girl of only ten days. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 530 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire came into force. These figures show continuously increasing tension.

What did the hospital and local administration say?

The director of Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital said that war-like conditions continue against the people of Gaza. He raised the question why the actual effect of the ceasefire was not visible on the ground. Local health officials say that due to continuous attacks, there is fear among the common people and the situation is not returning to normal.

In which areas the attacks took place?

Eleven people, including several members of a family, were killed in firing on a building in the Tuffah area of northern Gaza. An attack on a family’s tent in the southern city of Khan Yunis killed three people, including a 12-year-old boy. Three more people, including a husband and wife, were killed by tank shelling in the Zaitoun area of Gaza City.

What is the total loss so far?

More than 71,800 Palestinians have been killed since the war began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The ministry does not release separate figures for combatants and civilians, but its records are generally considered reliable by the United Nations and several independent experts. The continuously increasing deaths have raised new questions on the effectiveness of the ceasefire.
