Thai army captures identified areas, forces Cambodia army to retreat

Backlink,. Thailand’s PM Anutin Charnvirakul has said that the Thai army has taken control of almost all the identified areas and now the Cambodian army is being forced to retreat. These areas are being closely monitored so that no clashes occur again. According to media reports, in an interview, Anutin said that he has instructed the Foreign Ministry to present Thailand’s position clearly in the special meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers on Monday.
He stressed that Thailand has not violated any agreements and is not the aggressor party. All steps taken by the government are to protect the sovereignty and security of the country. He said Thailand has always been following the principles of international law and is trying to prevent the situation from worsening. So far 34 Thai civilians have died in the recent conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Surasant Kongsiri said that the incidents of clashes on the border are now gradually decreasing. In some areas, people have started returning to their homes and the number of relief camps has also been reduced. On Sunday afternoon, Cambodia’s army continued shelling the border areas of Sa Kaeo province of Thailand. After this, the Aranyaprathet district authorities had to issue an urgent notice to the residents to move to safe areas.
According to the report, a spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy said that a Marine soldier was injured when he stepped on a landmine during an operation in the Ban Nong Ri area of Trat province on Sunday. The spokesman said that this incident shows that Cambodia is still using landmines, which is a violation of international law.
