Thai cargo ship ‘Mayuri Nari’ attacked in Hormuz, 23 crew members aboard

Thailand. The attack on a large cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday has raised concerns about maritime security and global trade. Thailand-flagged cargo ship Mayuri Nari became the victim of attack while it was heading towards India. A total of 23 crew members were on board the ship. A rescue operation was immediately launched after the incident and 20 sailors were rescued safely, while three people are said to be still present on the ship and their condition is unclear. After the incident, black smoke was seen rising from the ship and life boats were seen floating in the sea nearby. The Royal Thai Navy played an important role in the rescue operation. The Navy launched relief and security operations in collaboration with international agencies. At present, the reasons for the attack are being investigated and till now no organization or country has taken responsibility for it.

According to the information, this ship is owned by Thai company Precious Shipping. The ship was near Oman’s territorial waters at the time of the attack and had shortly departed from a port in the United Arab Emirates. Following the incident, Thai authorities have taken emergency measures to ensure the safety of the ship and its crew.

Two other ships also attacked

On the same day, news of attacks on two other ships around the Strait of Hormuz has also come to light. This has further increased the tension in the area. Recently, Iran had warned of attacks on ships passing through this route, after which this area is being considered more sensitive for maritime transport.

This narrow waterway connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea and a large part of the global energy supply passes through this route. It is estimated that about 20 percent of the world’s oil and natural gas is supplied through this route. Major oil producing countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iraq transport their oil to international markets through this route.

Impact on global oil supply

Experts believe that if incidents of attacks on ships in this region increase or movement is disrupted, it could have a direct impact on global oil supply, shipping costs and the international economy. Many countries have already anticipated rising fuel prices and shipping insurance premiums may also become costlier. If the situation worsens, this area can also become the center of major military tension.
